The J Rotherham story began with Henry Rotherham, founding master mason, in the early 20th century. Henry later passed the business on to Joseph Rotherham senior, who also inherited his father’s remarkable ability with stone and eye for detail.

In 1973, Joe Rotherham junior joined him and together the father and son partnership began to expand the company.

In 2015, Matt Rotherham was appointed as the new Managing Director, becoming the fourth generation of the family to fill the role.

From decorative stone capitals for stately homes and gardens to marble statues for public and national spaces, our designer stonework can be found all over the UK and further afield.

From our 17 acre state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Yorkshire, we create a stunning range of hand-carved architectural masonry for discerning clients throughout the UK and around the globe.

In 1984, the company were commissioned to manufacture and install extensive marble work, including eight bathrooms and two staircases into The Abdulaziz, the Saudi Royal Yacht.

Then, in 2000, we supplied and installed over £1,000,000 of marble, granite and stonework into the Celtic Manor hotel and golf resort. The commission included 50 special suite bathrooms in Calacatta Oro and a mosaic swimming pool specially designed with a dragon motif.

J. Rotherham searched for the best suppliers and refined our material range so that it offers the perfect solution for any taste.

We hold over 4000 slabs of material for a wide choice and a quick turnaround and over decades in the industry we have built up a reputation for only allowing the very best quality material to reach our factory and enter production.

A well chosen material gives a sense of quality and attractiveness that will continue to impress both aesthetically and functionally over the lifetime of the kitchen.

We were the first company in the UK stone industry to introduce Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) technology in 1988 and were at the forefront of innovation once again when we installed the first seven axis stone working robot in 2008.

More recently we have invested in several of the most advanced CNC router and saw machines and installed the world’s first robotic stone cutting line in 2017.

This investment in technology and machinery, the largest of its kind in the UK, makes sure every bespoke worktop we manufacture is made to the highest standards, meaning all our customers get the very best finished product in their homes with crisp, smooth edges alongside accurate shaping and profiling to ensure a perfect fit.
