GAS

Inset Fires

This type of gas fire fits directly into existing chairbricks/quarrybacks and captures the
essence of a real coal fire.
Primarily designed as a compliment to a centrally heated room.

Radiant Fires

This type of gas fire uses the fireback to increase the radiant heat output to the room
Some fires achieve a significant heat output using this method.

Convector Fires

A convector gas fire provides additional heat in the form of convected air.
In some instances the fire can be used as the only heating appliance in the room.

Homes Without Chimneys

Fan Flue - an appliance is installed with a rear or side venting extraction fan, for which
an electricity supply is required. side venting can have up to 7 metres of ducting.

Balanced Flue - a highly efficient fire behind glass, with rear venting. this type of flue is
virtually silent, and requires no electricity supply.

Made To Measure Fires

For uniquely shaped grates, victorian insets, or unusual fire baskets.

Dog Basket & Hole In The Wall Fires

The dog basket gas fire, and the hole in the wall require a recess to stand in.
Mainly they require a class 1 flue but some can be flueless.
These gas fires can be treated in a traditional way with a period dog basket and
surround, or as a contemporary hole in the wall arrangement.

ELECTRIC

SOLID FUEL

STOVES

CLASS 1
Class1
Either a traditional brick built chimney, minimum 225mm x 225mm square, or minimum 178mm diameter round flue. Originally for use with solid fuel fires.

CLASS 2
Class2
Minimum 125mm round flue. Typically found in newer homes, where the chimney has been lined for use with a gas appliance.

PRECAST
Precast
Concrete or clay block of minimum 125mm diameter, leading to a raised vent rather than a chimney.

NO CHIMNEY
None
Some homes have no flue of any kind, but are still suitable for our specially designed fires.

BUILDING REGULATIONS

Building Regulations 2000 Approved Document J, requires the installer of a fireplace to be satisfied that the
flue size and condition meets with the current regulations, or, where the fire opening size has not been
changed during installation, that the fire will still perform satisfactorily with an existing flue that may not
comply with current regulations.

Builders of new houses since April 1st 2002 are required to provide the Householder with a certificate of
compliance for the flue/chimney, a copy of which will be required by the fireplace installer.

With older premises the flue may need to be inspected by a qualified chimney specialist. If we deem this to
be necessary following our initial survey we will refer the customer to a HETAS (solid fuel) or CORGI (gas)
specialist.

CHIMNEY SWEEP

The chimney should be swept by an NACS registered chimney sweep prior to the installation and a
certificate obtained. Please note that a chimney sweep’s certificate does not guarantee that the flue complies
with building regulations. Sweeping to be arranged by the customer. For the correct combustion of all gas
and solid fuel fires, it is essential that all flue ways are regularly swept, at least once a year (twice a year
when burning wood). All gas fires should be regularly serviced by a qualified engineer.

AIR VENTS

Building regulations also now require a permanently open air vent(s) into the room where the fire is
installed. The cost of installing vents if not present is extra to our our quotation depending on type and size
required.
